The pickled fish noodle soup is a must!!!! The broth is incredibly flavorful (more intense than some pho and ramen broths that I've had), the noodles are chewy, the fish is tender, and the pickles add this zingy tang to the soup. The serving size is generous and I wish that my stomach was bigger so that I could eat more of this. The restaurant itself is very warm and cozy looking. 10/10 will be back here.
I've been to a different Yunnan Rice noodle restaurant back home, which is why we wanted to try the East Village location so much. TLDR: great almost hole-in-the-way underrated restaurant at an amazing price! If you're coming here, you'll quickly see that most of the menu is the noodle dishes (crossing river noodle - translated), a dish native to the Yunnan region of southern China. We got the sirloin (spicy) and pickled fish noodle, and they were amazing -- the dishes came out quickly, had tons of meat and vegetable, had incredibly flavorful soup, brought a ma-la numbing kick with peppercorns, and all around were more than worth the $15 apiece. When the restaurant says they're spicy...trust them -- I could handle the 2 pepper signs, but the 3 would've been almost too much. That being said, it should fit plenty of peoples' palates based on what flavors, meats, etc. you like best (you can even customize your broth + meat mix, although it's a bit more expensive and I don't think you really need to since it's so naturally good) It's a bit disheartening that there weren't many people here on Sunday evening -- so it felt a bit too quiet at times -- because this was one of the best bowls of noodles I've had in New York (with friendly staff as well). Definitely mark this on your restaurant bucket list and you won't be disappointed!! Food: 5 Service: 5 Ambience: 4 Value: 5
Let me preface by saying I normally don't like noodle in soups (weird, I know). That said, Shi Miao Dao has some of the best soup noodles I've had in a while -- and I would absolutely go again. The food: I ordered the sirloin soup and my boyfriend got the fish. My spice tolerance is pretty high, so the sirloin soup tasted absolutely delicious (but be warned -- there are 3 chili peppers by it on the menu). The beef was incredibly tender and there were a ton of ingredients (ham, corn, mushrooms) in the soup as well. We also got the pear drink which I cannot recommend enough! The service: our server was extremely attentive. We also had our food served within 10 minutes, and everything came out piping hot. TLDR: St. Mark's has a lot of Asian places that tend to be overhyped, but I absolutely love this noodle place. If you ever have time for a quick, incredible bite, you should definitely stop by! Also a tip: I read on here that they used to be cash only, but that's not the case anymore! They currently accept Mastercard and Visa, but not Amex.
We came across this place while looking for a hot pot restaurant in the area. Shi Miao Dao looked tempting so we decided to give it a try. At this difficult time, we were impressed to see disinfecting wipes and hand sanitizer right at the door of restaurant. The menu is simple as it laid out many choices of hot pot, I chose the chef's special hand made shrimp balls and seafood served with small dish ingredients of quail egg, ham, black mushroom, corn kernels, black fungus, dry tofu, skin chives, white fungus, bamboo shoots and fish tofu. They first served a boiling broth in a stone pot, placed quail egg first then add rest of small dish ingredients then lastly, add the rice noodle and stir for 10 seconds, voila! your hot pot is ready. The service is super fast, the portion is filling and it wont break the bank account, We will definitely come back and try some other stuff on the menu soon!
Service was really nice. Food was okay. We ordered Jin tang noodles and spicy beef noodles. Prefer jintang milder spice than the other. Small cozy place.
